We all know Twitter hasn’t quite been the same since Musk took over. As Musk focuses on increasing his social presence, Twitter is slowly imploding as its dwindling employees scramble to keep the platform stable. Verification is now a paid feature while other parts of the site are in poor condition and bugs abound.
But if you missed the blue check, you’re out of luck. A newly discovered error can help you recover it – at least for a few seconds. Simply edit your resume. Later; That’s it.

Adding “hello” to my bio brought back the blue check… for a few seconds at least.

Users who caught the error originally thought there was a copy of the phrase “previous blue check” that should be added to your resume, but in a sleepwalking stupor I typed “previous proof check” into my account and my verification badge showed up intact, even with the typo. When I deleted “check previous directory” and typed “hello” instead, that worked too. But as soon as my blue check appeared, it was gone. Seconds later it reappeared, then disappeared forever.
The bug appears to only affect accounts previously verified by Twitter. I asked an unverified colleague to change his bio to see what would happen, and his name stayed blue. This is probably for the best: Once Musk made blue checks a paid feature, Twitter users got annoyed about it, leading to a campaign to ban blue-flagged accounts. Once a coveted status symbol, the blue check lost all value under Musk. At this point, you really don’t want one anyway.
