The 2023 Quest Gaming Showcase will contain the "double" of new VR games

What you need to know

• The third Meta Quest Gaming Showcase takes place on June 1, 2023 at 10a PT, and is streamed on YouTube, Facebook, and Twitch.
• The show will focus on next year’s Meta Quest games, and will feature pre-show trailers and a post-show roundtable with VR developers.
• The Meta promises “more than twice as many” ads as last year’s show, including “a major first-party title from Oculus Studios.”

The third annual Meta Quest Gaming Showcase is the closest thing a VR gaming space has to E3 (Rest In Peace), so it makes sense that Meta pushed the event from its usual mid-April to June slot.

Meta plans to make the early summer event bigger than ever. The pre-show event will begin at 9:45 a.m. PT / 12:45 p.m. ET with standalone trailers that didn’t introduce the main show, followed by the main show filled with “game announcements, game previews,[and]updates for existing games.”

The entire event should last about 45 minutes, and will be hosted by Oculus Studios Executive Producer Ruth Bram. It will apparently twice host announcements and trailers as a 2022 event, which has had some major revelations like Between Us VR and the NFL Pro Era, Walking Dead Chapter 2 and Ghostbusters VR.

There will also be a “post-show developer roundtable for a deep chat about some upcoming games” after the Meta Quest Gaming Showcase.

The short teaser video for the Meta Quest Gaming Showcase shows a horned helmet on a desert in the middle of a sandstorm. We don’t know yet if this teases a sequel to one of Quest 2’s best games or something completely new.

What we do know is that Meta is investing heavily in VR developers. In March, the Meta announced that more than 150 Quest games were in development under the new Oculus Publishing umbrella.

We also know that recent major layoffs on the Meta have affected several Oculus Studios brands like Ready at Dawn and Downpour Interactive, so we’ll be interested to see how many announcements come from first-party or third-party studios.

With Quest 3 due to arrive in October, it wasn’t clear if the Meta would continue to focus attention on Quest 2. Events like this show that the old console has plenty of life left, and we can hope that these future Quest 3 games will also be compatible with Quest 2. Previous versions with the current headset.
