TL; DR
- Clearer renderings of the Pixel Fold have been leaked.
- They show the phone in its obsidian colors.
It’s no secret that Google is just a few days away from announcing the Pixel Fold, its first-ever foldable phone. The leaks revealed almost everything there is to know about the upcoming Galaxy Z Fold competitor. All we need now is to confirm the launch details and availability. And hopefully, we’ll get those when Google hosts its own keynote at I/O on May 10th. But before that happens, take a look at these very clear renders of the Pixel Fold that he posted Evan Blass during the Weekend.
This is probably our best look at the foldable Pixel. The renders are identical to those previously leaked by OnLeaks but offer a clearer look at the phone.
Those thick edges are also on full display in these photos. While some may hate them, they can help get a comfortable grip on the phone without having to accidentally touch anything on the screen. In contrast, the recently leaked Galaxy Z Fold 5 shows a smoother display. So Google may have a hard time selling to customers who want a more modern, foldable look. The Z Fold 5 is also expected to get a slightly longer 6.2-inch external display compared to the Pixel Fold’s 5.8-inch display, so that’s another thing buyers should consider.
Elsewhere, the hinge mechanism makes it seem like there might be quite a bit of screen crease on the phone. We’ve seen several foldable phones work in this aspect this year. It would be nice to see Google get the foldable display right the first time, though it’s late to the party and it has time to learn from its competitors.
We’re seeing a black road in renders leaked here, but according to Blass, the Pixel Fold will also come in Porcelain colors.
