Leaked Motorola Razr 40 Ultra specifications reveal chipset and color options

While we wait for the next foldable devices from Samsung, Motorola has a couple of devices of its own to launch. The next Razr successor is expected to be released this coming June, and we may finally have some specs before the unveiling.

According to XDA-Developers, the upcoming Motorola Razr 40 Ultra may be powered by the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1, which is a mid-year update to last year’s flagship chip. This chipset has been launched in several clamshell foldable phones this year, and while it’s not Qualcomm’s latest and greatest, it’s still a very capable chipset.

XDA also reveals up to 12GB of RAM and 512GB of storage. The phone could at least have the upper hand over the Galaxy Z Flip 5 when it comes to RAM, as Samsung has limited its clamshell to just 8GB so far.

When it comes to displays, a Full HD+ 120Hz panel is expected on the main display, while the cover display is said to have a 1056×1066 revolution, making it an almost perfect square. Motorola previously revealed that the Cover screen will be 3.5 inches, and will take up a large portion of the Cover panel.

As for the cameras, XDA says it will have a dual camera of 12MP and 13MP, which seems a bit disappointing. The primary sensor is said to be Sony IMX563, which was used in the Galaxy S22 Ultra and Xperia 1 IV, while the ultrawide camera may have a SK Hynix Hi1336 sensor. The phone is also said to have a 32MP selfie camera on the main screen, although it is possible that you can use the primary cameras to take selfies with the cover screen on.

Speaking of the cover screen, XDA says Motorola may allow users to launch apps from the smaller screen, though not all apps may be supported at launch. However, Motorola appears to have some kind of workaround that might allow users to force open apps, as per the claim the post found:

“This allows you to open any app on the external display, even those not designed for the screen size. Apps that are not designed for the external display can be difficult to use and not work as expected.”

As for the design, XDA says the phone will come in three colours, ‘Barberry’ (the red/hot pink we’ve seen in previous leaks), ‘black’, and ‘blue’. In addition, the hardware hinge will enable a feature similar to Samsung’s Flex Mode on the Galaxy Z Flip 4.

While there’s no information on the less expensive Razr 40 (formerly the Razr Lite), the Razr 40 Ultra is shaping up to be a decent competitor to Samsung’s Z Flip series. Now, we just need to cross our fingers for an imminent launch that includes North America.
