TL; DR
- Pictures have leaked from the Google Pixel 7a box.
- The box states that it will not support mmWave and it does not come with a charger.
- Also confirms the model number GWKK2.
Rumors have swirled wildly about Google’s upcoming budget-level Pixel phone. Today, we have another leak: the new phone’s retail box (via TechDroider on Twitter).
It’s no surprise that the Google Pixel 7a box looks like every other Pixel phone box we’ve seen over the years. The phone appeared on the front with “Pixel 7a” on top. A Google “G” logo appears above that.
The back of the box is where things get a little more interesting. There, you can see the model number of this charcoal-colored track, the GWKK2. You can also see that this phone’s 5G support is limited to Sub6 only. This means that there will be no mmWave 5G for this particular SKU.
However, this does not mean that there will not be a Pixel 7a that supports mmWave 5G networks. Verizon’s model should see this support, though it will likely come at a higher cost. This phone will also have a different model number.
Elsewhere, a Google Pixel 7a box appears to confirm that there will be no charging brick in the box. This isn’t surprising when you consider that the Pixel 6a didn’t have this either, nor do any other recent Pixels. However, if you’ve been holding on to a charger inside your Pixel 7a’s box, you can go ahead and stop holding on for now.
Google is still quiet when we see the Pixel 7a launch. Judging by the number of rumors — and the fact that retail units are already circulating — our money’s on Google I/O 2023. That event happens on May 10th, so you only have a little over a week to wait.
