How to use Chrome's Reader Mode feature

The web is full of useful and interesting information. But sometimes, web pages can be distracting with too many pictures, videos, and other strange content that gets in the way of your reading experience. To get a clean view of a webpage with only the content you want, you can use Google Chrome’s Hidden Reader mode. It provides a clean reading experience without all the extra frills. It’s a feature often touted for education, but also an important accessibility feature, useful for those with reading challenges such as dyslexia. There is a little workaround for using it across the desktop. But once you know how, you’ll enable it all the time.

What is the difference between Chrome Reader mode and Reading mode?

1. Open a file Chrome browser.

2. Go to chrome://flags/. This is a shortcut command that takes you to a menu where you can activate various non-default browser features.

3. Scroll down to Enable reader mode.

4. Click on the drop-down menu to the right of it and select maybe.

5. You will see a Reboot summoned. Select it and Chrome will restart.

6. Go to a website and select an article or piece of content that you want to read.

7. Click on Reader mode icon that now appears at the top right of the menu bar.

8. You will see the text and nothing appear on the screen.

9. If you want, for whatever reason, Disable reader modefollow steps 1-3 and select Disabled, then restart Chrome again.

How to use the reading mode feature in Chrome on Android

1. Go to Google Play Store.

2. Find a file Reading mode application by Google LLC and downloaded.

3. Once downloaded, go to settingsAnd Accessibility.

4. You’ll see reading mode as a top menu option. Click and turn it on by clicking on the right. A pop-up will appear asking if you want to grant Read Mode permission for full device control. He chooses Allow.

5. Another popup will show how to click on a file access button on the screen to use the feature. Click it to show that you understand.

6. A short demo will pop up. Once you are done reading, close the app.

7. Go to a web page on Chrome and select the content you want to read.

8. Click on Reader mode button Below, on the right.

9. The content will now appear in Reader mode. Note that you can also play the content out loud if you have vision limitations in addition to adjusting the font size. Reading Mode on Android also works outside of Google Chrome, including with certain apps.

Chances are that not many people know about this handy trick that can make reading distracting web pages much easier. From an accessibility standpoint, it’s also a huge deal for those who avoid certain web pages because distractions make it difficult for them with disorders like dyslexia. The ability to zoom in on content on an Android mobile device as well, and even hear audio with the larger version, could be a game-changer for those with vision limitations.

It’s worth noting that this is just one of the many Chrome flags you can enable, though it’s best not to mess with others without really understanding them. It has a lot of experimental features, so keep that in mind. But Reader Mode is so simple you can rest assured it’s worth a run.
