Google Pixel phones are catching the May 2023 update at the right time

Google is not missing out because the company has already started rolling out the May 2023 security patch for Pixel devices.

As mentioned in the changelog post, Google is rolling out the latest security patch for Pixel devices running Android 13 throughout the week. Devices ranging from Pixel 4a to Pixel 7 Pro will receive the May 2023 security patch starting Monday and over the next week. Google’s changelog for users keeps things quite light as the company points out upcoming bug fixes and improvements for Pixel devices.

The patch bug fixes are as follows:

• Improvements to touch screen responsiveness in certain circumstances

• Fixes an issue that sometimes caused lock screen widgets to overlap with the home screen launcher interface

When it comes to fixing touchscreen responsiveness, Google states that this is specifically for the Pixel 7 Pro models. Annoying screen problems were a common report among 7 Pro owners last year, shortly after release. An update was said (at the time) to rectify the situation. However, users continued to experience problems. Hopefully, as the security patch begins rolling out in May 2023, this will be the last complaint users will have with their 7 Pro display.

Aside from the typical debugging information we’ve come to expect, Pixel users are being brought up to speed with the latest security fixes published by the May Android Security Bulletin. Security vulnerabilities are numerous here as Google details patches for Arm components and for MediaTek and Qualcomm components.

The upcoming May update on the 1st of the month is welcome when looking at the late April 2023 patch, which rolled out a week later. As mentioned earlier, the May 2023 security patch for the Pixel 4a will be rolled out to the preloaded Pixel 7 Pro. TQ2A.230505.002 for global devices.

You’ll find Pixel phones on T-Mobile and related MVNOs like Google Fi A1 Update variant for Pixel 4a (5G), Pixel 5, and Pixel 5a (5G).

The May 2023 security patch should be doing its rounds as the week goes on. If you haven’t received it yet, or are just curious, you can check manually on your phone by heading to Settings > System > System update.
