Google Pixel 7a white showing WinFuture

TL; DR

  • The Pixel 7a is expected to be unveiled during Google I/O.
  • A leaked Pixel roadmap suggests there might be a Pixel 8a, but it depends on how the Pixel 7a sells.
  • A leaker suggests that the Pixel 7a may be the last of its kind.

We are just days away from the Google I/O event where there is a good chance that the company will officially unveil the Google Pixel 7a. But could the Pixel 7a be Google’s swan song for the A series phones? The answer might be a little complicated.

back in december, Android Authority I worked with a trustworthy source to uncover the Google Pixel roadmap. What we learned from this leak is that Google may be rethinking its A-series strategy. Based on the information, we know that there is a plan for the Pixel 8a phone, codenamed “akita”. However, whether the Pixel 8a is released or not may ultimately depend on Pixel 7a sales.

Now, tipster Yogesh Brar seems fairly sure that the Pixel 7a will be the last of its kind. On Twitter, Brar claims the end is near for the A series and Google will simply move on with the vanilla Pixel and Pro model.

It looks like the Pixel a series is coming to an end. With specs and price so high on the Pixel 7a, there certainly won’t be any 8a coming.

Google will likely stick to vanilla and Pro models along with a foldable in the future. Something similar may happen with Samsung

Instead of ending Series A entirely, as Brar suggests, our source said Google could move to a semi-annual release schedule. Our guess is that the tech giant could even choose to change the name of the font, though our source didn’t mention it. If the name changes, it effectively means the A series is gone, but the line will still be the mid-range Pixel budget phone that Pixel owners know and love.
