Has the BeReal gimmick lost its novelty for you? She is trying so hard to win you back.
Today (May 1), BeReal(Opens in a new tab) Launch RealPeople(Opens in a new tab), what the app calls a “curated timeline of the most interesting people” for UK users. It will be available globally “very soon”.
While the new feature seems counterintuitive to the anti-influencer platform, in a press release BeReal explains, “RealPeople is not about influencing, collecting likes and comments, or promoting brands. You won’t see photoshopped photos, product recommendations, or compelling ads in the form of posts.” The app assures users that RealPeople will be a mixture of people you know and don’t know, and it’s an attempt to show that public figures are real and also boring. Yes…
Now you can share what you’re listening to on Spotify with the next BeReal
The update looks like the feed on every other social media platform minus the filters and sponsored posts. It comes on the heels of another update revealed last week in the UK, Bonus BeReal(Opens in a new tab). The feature is now available in the US Bonus BeReal It allows you to post two BeReals throughout the day – but only if you post the first time within the allotted two-minute window. It encourages users to post original once a day and share a couple of highlights. But it distracts from why users enjoy the app in the first place, since you only need to run it once a day. Bonus BeReal creeps into tired Instagram Story territory.
The platform also recently partnered with Spotify(Opens in a new tab) To allow users to share the song they are listening to using their dual camera selfies.
These cascading updates are another attempt at user retention after the number of daily BeReal users dropped from 20 million in October 2022 to 10.4 million in February 2023. BeReal first gained popularity in the US on college campuses at the beginning of 2022, and from there it skyrocketed from In terms of relevance across demographics, it peaked in September 2022 with 12 million downloads per month. Prior to this many changes, BeReal had not made any significant updates to the app.
Now play catch-up.
