Over the past few years, Sony has made it clear that it wants its PlayStation games to do double duty as TV/movie hits. So far, we’ve got Tom Holland driving unknown From 2022, and the latest HBO adaptation The last of us. But there are a lot of modifications to it horizon (Zero down)from the latest blockbuster movies such as Days passed And Ghost of Tsushima to…Twisted metal.
Just before the weekend kicks off, Peacock released the first trailer for the show ahead of its release in late July. It doesn’t really give you an idea of what the show will be like, though: the shots are Anthony Mackie in a car and driving through an apparent battlefield, and there’s also an ice cream truck driven by a man in a clown mask. The premise of the show sees Mackey playing an amnesiac milkman named John Doe, who is tasked with leading a mysterious pack during a post-apocalyptic world. At one point, he’ll cross paths with Quiet (Stephanie Beatriz), and the two will get into a car fight as they strive to get Doe’s pack to the finish line.
For those who didn’t have a PlayStation console growing up, Twisted metal It was a car fighting series that debuted on PlayStation 1 in 1995 from developer SingleTrac. The general premise across all of the games is that contestants blow each other up to entertain a reality-manipulating man (demigod?) named Calypso, and whoever remains in place is granted one wish, but with some dark twist. The series was well-liked in the day and a marquee PlayStation franchise over the years thanks to numerous sequels and spin-offs from other studios after SingleTrac closed.
but Twisted metal As a series it has been MIA since the 2012 PlayStation 3 reboot of the same name. The same month as the reboot, Sony announced plans to turn the series into a feature film, which never came to fruition. With this demo on the horizon, it’s not entirely clear what’s going on on the game side of things; There was a rumor in early 2022 that a new batch was in the works from Horizon: Call of the Mountain Developer firewhich the studio apparently took over from motorstorm Content creator Lucid Games. Nothing came of it, but perhaps Sony will be more than willing when the show nears the finish line.
Starring Neve Campbell, Thomas Haden Church, Samoa Joe, Will Arnett, Twisted metal It will premiere July 27 on Peacock.
