TL; DR

  • The design of the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5 appears in some new high-quality CAD-based renders.
  • The phone appears to have a huge cover screen and square-shaped sides.
  • Other upgrades this year will likely be internal.

Earlier this weekend, we saw leaked renderings of the Galaxy Z Fold 5 courtesy of reliable Steve Hemmerstoffer. Now, the same source is leaking the brother’s phone.

Today, we have our first good look at the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5’s design (via Peanut Media). While we’ve seen hints of a redesign through the rumor mill, these are the first reliable, high-quality offerings we’ve found.

The most notable update we think will come this year is the introduction of a completely revamped cover. Now, the external screen takes up nearly 50% of the back of the phone. This should give users better access to features and controls without unlocking the phone first.

The sides of the Galaxy Z Flip 5 are also square in the renders, indicating a redesign to keep this new device in line with the Galaxy S23 series.

Outside of the cover screen and square sides, the design of the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5 appears to be mostly the same as we’ve seen in previous years. There’s still a dual-lens camera system on the back, an in-display cutout for the selfie camera, a bottom speaker next to the USB-C port, etc., and it looks like the power button/fingerprint sensor revolves around it.

The rest of the notable upgrades should be within the phone. We’re expecting a Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 processor, likely the same “Galaxy” model inside the Galaxy S23 series. The cameras could get some upgrades too, though there aren’t solid rumors as far as that goes. We also hope to see a bigger / longer lasting battery and faster charging.

Samsung is likely to launch this new foldable phone in July/August. A recent rumor points to a launch in late July, but we can’t say for sure just yet. Stay tuned!
