Star Wars fans will be heading back to a galaxy far, far away this week as 2023 continues to unleash major games. Star Wars Jedi: Survivor comes out this Friday and continues the adventures of one of the last Jedi Knights in the galaxy, Cal Kestis.
Star Wars Jedi: Survivor is the sequel to the hugely successful Jedi: Fallen Order from 2019. Taking place five years after the events of the first game, Jedi: Survivor makes great strides to improve on the original even though it slips in one big aspect of the game.

When can I start pre-loading Jedi: Survivor?
Those who pre-ordered Jedi: Survivor can start pre-loading the game on April 25th. Since the games take up more than 140 GB of storage space, pre-loading will save some time for gamers who are eagerly waiting to join the game.
What comes with the different versions of Jedi: Survivor?
There are three editions of Jedi: Survivor. The Standard Edition costs $70 and comes with the Hermit Cosmetic Pack that includes the Hermit Lightsaber, Obi-Wan Kenobi-inspired costume set, and Combustion Blaster Set.
Priced at $90, the Deluxe Edition comes with the Hermit Cosmetics Pack, Scoundrel Cosmetics Pack based on Han Solo, Rebel Hero Cosmetics inspired by Luke Skywalker and two BD-1 Cosmetics.
The Jedi: Survivor Collector’s Edition costs $300 and is already sold out. Distributed by Limited Run Games, this version comes with a full-size functional Cal Kestis Replica Lightsaber Hilt (blade sold separately), premium Lightsaber magnetic box, Certificate of Authenticity and previously mentioned cosmetic bundles. Only 1,500 collectors’ copies were made.
What is the story of Jedi: Survivor?
Jedi: Survivor takes place five years after the events of Jedi: Fallen Order. Cal Kestis joined the rebellion led by Saw Guerrero. On the run from the Empire, Cale comes across clues to a hidden planet once inhabited by Jedi, possibly the safe haven he’s been searching for.
Is my grandfather: Survivor good?
When Jedi: Fallen Order came out, it had a great mix of fast-paced action that made full use of lightsabers and Force powers, but was light on things to do outside of the main story. Jedi: Survivor, on the other hand, is full of interesting side quests and items to unlock. There’s also a whole cantina full of new characters for you to meet, and you can even track down bounty hunters.
Cale has also grown as a character in many ways. His fighting style is more ferocious, and he takes down enemies by impaling them with his lightsaber or slashing parts of the body. Speaking of lightsabers, Cal has several new combat stances including the twin lightsaber, blaster/lightsaber combo and Crossguard Lightsaber. Depending on the situation, there are advantages and disadvantages to offensive and defensive abilities, attack ranges, and force use.
Everything in Jedi: Survivor seems to be an improvement on Jedi: Fallen Order except for the story. It starts out excitingly, but there is a lull for most of the middle of the game. I’m 30hrs and it looks like I haven’t had an emotional moment for a good 10 hours.
While the game is full of Star Wars canon, taking pieces from the prequel trilogy and even the Disney Plus series Obi-Wan, there’s a lack of compelling scenes. In contrast, Jed: Fallen Order felt like an emotional roller coaster. The parts of the story I get are interesting, but they are few and far between. It makes me feel like I’m nowhere near completing the game, even after 30 hours, which seems like a lengthy one just for the sake of making a game with such a long playtime.
Aside from the story, Jedi: Survivor has some technical issues, such as awkward character animations, enemies falling to the ground and weird camera angles. The Day 1 patch is expected to clear up a lot of issues, but don’t be surprised if some of them require multiple updates to fix.
Jedi: Survivor would be the perfect sequel if it weren’t for the extremely long story. The Star Wars universe has expanded since the release of Jedi: Fallen Order in 2019. It’s understandable that you’d want to bring this canon into the game, but it didn’t hit those emotional moments in the original game.
