Sony unveiled the Xperia 1 Mk V in ten days. The device was teased over a couple of months ago with a similar design to its predecessor, but we now have confirmation of the look. The new flagship has appeared on a billboard in Hong Kong, revealing a vertical three-camera design with a more significant oval island and more prominent lenses.
An image of the billboard has surfaced on Reddit, revealing that the new Xperia 1 will be announced to be “one for all lights” and will feature a “next-generation low-noise dual camera sensor”.
Previous reports were that Sony is implementing an IMX 989 sensor for the main camera, but it may use the IMX858 for the main photography as it is the only platform that supports the new LN2 low-noise mode in combination with MCSS (Multi Camera Sync System).
The way LN2 works is that it implements a new architecture of CMOS sensor technology. Instead of applying photodiodes and pixel transistors to the same substrate and layer, they are now stacked one on top of the other, thus expanding the dynamic range, allowing more light and less noise without affecting the overall performance of the phone.
Sony Xperia 1 V.
Sony doesn’t have a habit of teasing out specs like other manufacturers; This means we’ll learn all about the Xperia 1 V’s camera capabilities on May 11th at launch.
Thanks for the tip, Josip!
