It took Samsung several months, but the skin temperature sensor on the Galaxy Watch5 and Watch5 Pro was finally enabled last week. However, these sensors are currently only used for one feature – cycle tracking based on skin temperature.
This is just the beginning. A Samsung official posted on the company’s Korean forum to reveal that more temperature-based features are being developed and that they will be delivered with future software updates.
However, the release timing is uncertain — these health tracking features may require certification from local authorities in each region, which is why progress has been so slow.
One possible feature is to show only the wearer’s current temperature. At the moment you can’t see the reading, it’s a hidden value only used in hour calculations.
In any case, there is a good chance that the new features will debut with the upcoming Galaxy Watch6 series and that they will be carried over to the Watch5 series later on. The new models are expected in late July.
