Meta announced Thursday that it has introduced new body shapes and improved hair and clothing textures for its avatar. The updates seem like good steps forward in helping people better represent themselves, but as you get around the Meta horizon worlds VR social platform, you still won’t see other people’s legs.
For new body types, Meta says you’ll be able to choose from “a wide range of body shape options, including two curvier body shapes” starting this month, according to a blog post. The company is also “improving” some of the existing body types to make them more distinct from the rest.
For hair and clothing, the company is adding “extra detail and realism,” and you may see more sparkle in people’s eyes. But you won’t see these improvements while looking at avatars in VR; Instead, they’ll appear “in posters, profile photos, cover photos, and more.”
