TL; DR
- Android 14 could bring a new look style to the material called Fidelity.
- Fidelity provides bolder colors for materials than was previously available.
- The bolder colors aren’t directly available in Android 14 yet.
Materials has been the face of Android’s UI design language since Android 12. While it looks great and all, the fact that it doesn’t exactly match your wallpaper is a noticeable limitation. But Android 14 may have a solution to this problem.
according to 9to5GoogleThe Material Design team is working on a new theme style called “Fidelity”. This new look style will introduce bolder new colors to your material.
As it is now, Material You tries its best to match the color schemes of your UI to the colors of your wallpaper. However, it does this by translating the primary colors into pastels, often resulting in faded and muted results. Fidelity will change this by offering a more vibrant color palette than was previously available.
The colors are said to not be directly available in Android 14 yet. But the outlet found that the pattern is already available in a piece of Google’s open source code. With it, they were able to create a simple demo app that shows what can be achieved with Fidelity.
In the example above, there are two screenshots of the demo using the same base color. In the current version of Material You, this shade of red is impossible to match. As a result, you will instead use that soft red/pink shade you see in the right photo. On the other hand, Fidelity will be able to accurately match the color, as you can see in the left image.
It is not known when Fidelity will be ready for the public. We hope to hear more about this feature during the Google I/O conference. The Google event is scheduled for May 10th.
